Wonderful place to stay!
My Wife, Daughter and I stayed at the Old Rectory for 6 Nights during the October half-term week with our parents in celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. We can honestly say that this is the best B & B we have ever stayed in; everything was wonderful & we were made so welcome by Helle & David. The Old Rectory is situated in a most idyllic & peaceful location, & provided a good base for us to visit many nearby attractions, towns, fantastic countryside & walks - there really is a lot to do in this lovely part of the country. Our hosts Helle & David couldn't do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were superb & our rooms were lovely. Thank you so much for making our stay so wonderful & we can't wait to return. Sue R from Isle of Wight on Tripadvisor *****
Golden Wedding Celebration
We stayed with Helle and David for 6 nights recently. Our party consisted of myself and wife Dianne our daughter Susan, son-in-law Alan and grandaughter Emily. Helle and David looked after us superbly - nothing was too much trouble. It was a priviledge to stay in their wonderful home. We can't wait to go back!!

A Perfect place to stay!
This has to be the best B&B we have ever stayed in. Wonderful hosts, nothing at all was too much trouble. The room was spacious, warm and very, very comfortable; the house/their home is so lovely and Helle and David were just fantastic. Excellent breakfast, sourced locally where possible too. We were in the area to attend a wedding and could happily have stayed longer - I would love to return and stay another time for a longer spell.

The reviews are all true!!!
I visited last weekend with my Mum and Sister, and although I had booked The Old Rectory and of course checked several sites for reviews, I must admit that I thought that a lot of them may have been a bit "flowery"! But no - this B&B is THE BEST I have ever stayed at, and incredibly good value for money. The reviews are all true! From the moment we stepped into David, Helle and William's home we were made to feel like a part of the family. We were shown into their comfy family lounge for tea and home made cake (thanks William!), and later on again settled down in there for the evening to watch a DVD and relax. We had a marvellous night's sleep in very comfy beds with quality Egyptian cotton sheets, and everything we needed in our room. We stayed on the top floor, which has a twin/double room, a single room attached, and a private bathroom for that floor only. We were offered a flask of fresh milk for our morning drinks, and the tea/coffee tray was filled with very good quality drinks, together with home made flapjacks. Nothing had been missed in our room, from fluffy robes to magazines, and a large tin full of anything you may have forgotten, from ladies unmentionables(!) to a sewing kit, bar of chocolate, toothpaste etc, and even a bottle of contact lens fluid! We went down to breakfast in the family’s lovely dining room, with roaring fire. A beautiful breakfast followed, all fresh/organic/local, and so much to choose from - full English breakfast, fresh fruit, smoothies, fresh juice, smoked salmon and scrambled egg, toast/rye bread – need I say more?! And the lovely fresh cafetiere of coffee was accompanied by lively chatter between my Mum, Sister, the other two guests and David and Helle. Although we had a busy day in store, we asked for another cafetiere, as we were so enjoying our chat! We eventually left, with some tips from Helle on where to visit and how to make the most of our few days. We returned later in the day, with an offer of afternoon tea, but we decided to go to our room for a rest, before we went out to the local, excellent pub, The Three Daggers, which has a micro-brewery attached. Another good night’s sleep followed, and yet another excellent breakfast. We intended to go to a local farm shop, which did not open very early, so after we had packed everything ready to go home, David kindly made us yet another cafetiere of coffee, which we enjoyed in the lovely lounge, before saying our goodbyes and making our way home.
As we left, I felt like I had known David and Helle for years, and felt very much like one of the family. I have already booked again for next summer, when I will be taking my husband for our 10th anniversary weekend. There is so much to do in the area, and I would not hesitate to recommend the Old Rectory to everyone, especially if you like dogs, because Teddy and Tilly, the two resident Terriers, are a delight! But even if you're not a dog lover like me, they are such lovely dogs, I fail to see how anyone would not fall in love with them! Thanks David and Helle – I look forward to seeing you next year.

A Perfect Escape from City Life
My boyfriend planned a surprise weekend away for me; I knew nothing about where we were going or what we were doing. We arrived at the Old Rectory in Coulston at around 8.30pm; it was dark and starting to rain outside and we were welcomed into Helle and David's family home by their 18 year old son and 3 year old dog. In the living room was a roaring fire and the other 3 guests, two women and their mother, who were also enjoying David and Helle's hospitality. We had little time to appreciate the beauty of the house as we rushed back out of the door to dinner at the 3 Daggers, where a table had already been booked for us by Helle.
The next morning we could truly appreciate what a wonderful gem we had found. In the massive, wood floor bedroom we found an emergency tin containing all those little essentials you might forget on a trip away - nothing had been forgotten, from paracetamol to chocolate, toothpaste and shampoo - if you could forget it, it was already supplied somewhere in the bedroom. There was a flask of milk left outside our room first thing for our morning cup of tea, not to mention the freshly baked flapjacks in a jar by the kettle. The large bathroom had heated floor and sustainable bath products. When we finally made it downstairs for breakfast, we were greeted with a choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, full English, salmon as well as locally sourced honey, chilli sauce and anything else you could imagine. Not only that, but both Helle and David chatted to us while breakfast was served to suggest ways to make our day interesting, to offer local advice on places to park and to just generally get to know their guests. On our return from our day trip to Bath we were greeted with tea, lemon drizzle cake and a fire was lit for us in the living room. I have never felt more welcome in any b&b and would happily go and stay again. As Helle put it, they run a b&b because they want to run, not because they have to and they enjoy making sure people enjoy their stay, which is great because they really do achieve this goal with a seamless ease. One thing I will say is that I am not a dog person and David and Helle have two (they have just acquired Tilly, a 3 week old puppy), however somehow, despite my usual aversion to dogs, they managed to win me over and I couldn't help but enjoy their infectious enthusiasm. I can honestly say you won't find a better place to stay than the Old Rectory and it is a must visit! TeacherCat27 from London on Tripadvisor *****
A home from home - the best B&B we have ever stayed at!
My sister my mother and I arrived on Friday evening for a two night stay. Having forgotten our driving instructions and arriving with only the postcode (and SatNav) we were met by David looking out for us at the gate with newly-arrived puppy, Tilly.
Helle immediately arrived to meet us with half-brother Teddy (both beautiful Border Terriers and very friendly). We had the beautiful light and airy top floor with a twin and single room and private bathroom - all beautifully decorated with many lovely personal items for guests to enjoy. Every little thing was thought of (including a little box of every item that you might have forgotten - these things are not normally considered). We spent our first evening watching a DVD in the lovely, cosy Sitting Room with a blazing open fire. Breakfast was taken in the lovely bright breakfast/dining room. Unsurprisingly all excellent locally-sourced, good quality produce and the best coffee we've tasted for a long-time. Helle gave us lots of advice on places to visit and there is much to see locally. We had a super meal at The Three Daggers (just 1.5 miles away), The Old Rectory is most definitely a home from home - nothing is too much trouble for David and Helle. By the time we had spent our two nights with them we felt part of the family, and we were very sad to leave, but will certainly be returning. We could not speak more highly of our couple of days. Thank you David and Helle, (and Teddy and Tilly!!)

A perfect escape to the country
We came here for a two-night weekend getaway and break from the children. David and Helle made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived, bringing us tea in the cosy, antique-furnished guest living room and lighting a fire especially for us.
Set in beautiful grounds, this is the place to come if you want a peaceful and quiet escape. Breakfast is delicious, the house is spotless and elegant, the bedrooms are spacious, light and comfortable, the hosts are relaxed and friendly... what more could you want?! PS. Be sure to visit the Three Daggers nearby if you enjoy excellent beer and pub food.

Friendly, warm and welcoming
My wife and I arrived on to a warm welcome from David and Teddy the dog. We were shown to our room which had a lovely comfortable bed, en suite bathroom, TV, tea and coffee and fresh milk and water was supplied.
We stayed two nights so were able to enjoy two fabulous breakfasts served by Helle and David, with a choice of cereal, toast, full English, home made granola and a wonderful choice of organic and local jams and honey, all served up in a wonderful dining room or on summer days on the patio. We had a lovely relaxing time at The Old Rectory, would go back again and highly recommend it. D&B05 from Kent on Tripadvisor *****
A wonderful place to stay
We have just returned from a five night stay at the Old Rectory and what a wonderful time we had! Helle and David were perfect hosts, so welcoming and kind. They recommended several local places to eat and to visit. Our daughter was besotted with their dog, Teddy, and Helle invited her to accompany them on Teddy`s daily walk which made her holiday! We were positively encouraged to enjoy the house and use the beautiful sitting and dining rooms whenever we chose. Helle and David even provided some board games for us to play during the evenings! Our room was large and the beds were comfortable. Our daughter had the next door room. Everything was spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were excellent with all the produce locally sourced. By the time we left we felt like part of Helle and David`s family, it was rather like a visit to a favorite aunt and uncle! We cannot recommend the Old Rectory enough and we will certainly return as soon as we are able to. squels from Arezzo, Italy on Tripadvisor *****
It was good to be back...
We battled the London traffic and two accidents on the M25 knowing that when we got to The Old Rectory, all would be better. This was our third visit and arriving slightly later than we had hoped - 10.15pm - we were a little worried that we would disturb our hosts. How wrong we were...as soon as we came through the gate, out came Helle, David and the new addition to their family - a little puppy called Tilly - and gave us the familiar, lovely, warm welcome that we've been treated to on every visit. We slept well and were then treated to a delicious breakfast in the morning. This is one of our favourite places and we look forward to many more visits... peterD from London on Tripadvisor *****
The best kind of B&B experience you can have
My husband and I stayed with Helle and David at The Old Rectory last month. From the moment we drove up to the gate & were greeted by Teddy the friendly Border Terrier, we just knew that it was going to be a great experience. By the end of our stay, it felt almost as if we'd been staying with old friends, and after three nights, we were genuinely sad to leave. Helle has thought of every detail to make her guests' stay perfect. She contacted us in advance and made sure we had dinner reservations at a nearby gastropub for the evening we arrived. In our room we found a wee "emergency" box that includes any necessities one might have forgotten to bring--and there was even a bit of chocolate for chocoholics in need of a fix! It's the little things like that, as well as the warm welcome and friendly conversation, the comfortable beds, the delicious breakfasts, the adorable Border Terriers (Teddy & his new half-sister, Tilly), the homemade biscuits, the fresh milk outside your door every morning, not to mention the beautiful house and garden. Basically, The Old Rectory is just wonderful. We can't stop thinking about our stay there, and I'm betting we'll find our way back before too long!

This the best B & B in which we have ever stayed! Helle and David are the perfect hosts - their attention to detail and their ability to make you feel totally at ease from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave is just fabulous. The Old Rectory is a really lovely house and Helle concocts the most wonderful breakfasts - and tea and homemade flapjacks in front of the fire!
We cant wait to come back - we so enjoyed our stay, which was made even better by Teddy!

This is most certainly the best B and B we have ever had the pleasure to visit.
Helle and David were perfect hosts giving us a warm welcome on arrival together with Teddy who is a great little dog to have around.
The house and garden provide a wonderful tranquillity not often found these days, in a lovely part of Wiltshire.
Our room was all one could wish for, well proportioned, bright and with lovely flooring and décor, immaculately clean and likewise the en-suite bathroom, also no nearby traffic noise giving us a great nights sleep.
Breakfast was delicious with local produce and great smoothies that kept us going for most of the day.
If we were able to give six stars, we would, we'll be back.

Stayed for two nights and was simply wonderful. Perfect hosts - Helle and David made me most welcome and couldn't do enough to ensure I had a good stay. The house is beautiful and so refreshingly spacious. Full range of tasty breakfast. Very peaceful location. Well worth telling my friends about.

This is an amazing B&B which is ideally located to explore the local area and popular attractions in Wiltshire. The room was really homely and having access to the dining room and lounge really made it feel like a home from home. Helle and David are superb hosts and were so friendly and welcoming. They had thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable. Breakfast was delicious and Helle and David use locally sourced produce which makes it even better! Excellent local knowledge and sound advice allowed us to plan our weekend away and make the most out of our time there. Teddy the border terrier is so friendly and totally adorable he also provided us with a very warm welcome! Helle and David have a beautiful home and really make you feel welcome and relaxed. The small touches make such a difference for example, due to the weather we were not able to sit out in the garden so Helle made us a little lavender bag to take home from the lavander outside. We really enjoyed our stay and will definately be back ourselves in the future, we would highly recommend it to others.

We'd had a car accident on the way to Wiltshire, which was a stressful start to our weekend away, but Helle and David couldn't have been more welcoming or accommodating. The location was superb, easy access to Wiltshire's main attractions, and a lovely peaceful 'home from home' to return to. The room was spotless, lots of little 'extras' to make you feel welcome, and the breakfast was wonderful. What tops it all is that Helle and David are superb hosts, very kind and helpful, and they anticipate your every need. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Oh, and you'll fall in love with Teddy. Just go! JoBNorfolk_England from Norfolk on Tripadvisor *****
Lemon drizzle cake - a warm welcome
Staying in a gorgeous georgian house was an absolute must whilst visiting Bath and surrounding areas, great character ambience whilst imagining 'Mr D'arcy' ;-) paying a visit. Helle,David & Teddy (who greeted us by jumping into our car wagging his tail in excitement) very warm welcome, just like arriving at a relatives house. Even greeted by David with the most scrummy home made lemon drizzle cake served with superb, much needed, cafetiere of coffee, whilst resting in the lavender garden, beautiful .There are also some fabulous local walks, we were just round the corner from a deer park, and yes we saw multiple deer also got very excited at spotting a stag. We met a couple of neigbours who were also as welcoming and friendly next to a very quaint church, so peaceful and relaxing.
The house, the hosts with surroundings did not disappoint any of my great expectations. Our room was big, bright and airey even the 'just in case tin' catered for our every need, chocolate & plasters etc very thoughtful in every detail.
Will we stay here again? Most definitely, if they have a spare room available that is !!
Thank you Helle, David & Teddy

The Perfect B&B
After traveling throughout Great Britain for many years, have found the perfect B&B. Wonderful accommodations with all the amenities you would wish plus warm and friendly hosts. Helle and David are great cooks who prepare breakfast from local organic produce. The lemon cake with tea on the porch was just what was needed after a long day. Reservations were made for us at two good local pubs and hand drawn maps were invaluable when the GPS didn't work! We regretted saying goodbye, especially to Teddy, the four-legged cohost.

What a wonderful welcome in Wiltshire
We must thank trip advisor for this wonderful find. The moment we drove through the gates onto the gravel drive we instantly knew what a find it was. No sooner we had stopped the car, we were greeted by Helle with pot of tea and freshly home made scones where we sat on the patio and gazed at the wonderful view of the lavender and cabbage white butterflies and extensive gardens.
The complimentary breakfast was superb and more than adequate with everything from cereals to fresh fruit, croissants and choice of freshly cooked breakfast all served with a very personal touch by Helle and her husband David.
Overall, our stay was a sheer delight, and our return is absolutely assured in the not too distant future as we have family in the area. We truly valued everything from the warmth of the welcome to the fond farewell. Thank you both very much. Jim, Deb & Moll from Swansea on Tripadvisor *****
A gem in the English countryside
We are visitors from overseas, and found this B&B on Trip Advisor. What a lovely find! Helle and Dave were very welcoming to us as soon as we arrived. Their home is warm, comfortable and charming. Their breakfasts every morning were to die for, and their dog Teddy was an added bonus! Helle and Dave were also very helpful with maps, directions, and trip advice. They felt more like friends than hosts by the end of the trip.

Exceptional B&B in Wiltshire Countryside
The Old Rectory is a Georgian house set in 2 acres of quiet gardens in this small village nestling below Salisbury Plain. Helle and David have created a calm, well-appointed and stunningly furnished home in the 10 years they have lived there, featured recently in English Homes magazine. Our room was huge, with a large en-suite bathroom, and so well equipped: dressing gowns, tea/coffee and great flapjacks. We sat in the garden, a profusion of lavender all round the patio, while Helle brought us tea and biscuits, and realised we had found a truly wonderful place. There is so much to see and do in the area, and Helle was a great host, suggesting places to see and booking us tables at some great local pub restaurants. Strongly recommended. Far from the Maddening Crowd in Wiltshire
My husband and I discovered this former rectory through tripadvisor and were drawn to it as it is similar architecturally to the old vicarage in the village where I grew up and because it had such great reviews. These reviews were well deserved and we were delighted with our choice. The house is charming and airy and imaginatively decorated with beautiful artwork. We were in the master bedroom which has a pretty view of the front garden. Helle was a warm and animated hostess (David was away) and we had lots to talk about. The family dog, Teddy, was equally welcoming. Breakfast was generous and the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were particularly tasty. We understand this b and b is currently number 2 in Wiltshire and we cannot think of a single reason why it should not be number 1!

Myself and my 2 children stayed at The Old Rectory for 2 nights recently and had a lovely time. From the minute we arrived we felt very welcome and relaxed. Breakfast was delicious. I cannot find any faults with this B&B and would highly recommend it.

We've just come back from a weekend away celebrating our first wedding anniversary. Luckily we'd found this stunning B&B because it couldn't have been a more beautiful and idyllic place to be. We were very sad to leave this morning.
Helle & David (and Teddy the dog!) made us feel at home from the second they greeted us and couldn't do more to make sure our stay was absolutely perfect. The bedroom and en suite we had were absolutely incredible, and it had an extremely comfy bed! The house throughout has been furnished in the style of a true English country home and couldn't be more perfect in the beautiful surroundings.

This was our first time at The Old Rectory and i am hoping it's not our last! Helle and David could not have been more helpful! Not long after we booked, we had emails providing helpful information and bookings in the local pub (which was amazing as well!). While we were there, Helle and David helped with suggestions of local sites (including printing maps and directions!) as well as details of more local pubs to visit!
The breakfast was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble.

We were so lucky to have booked this B&B as David,Helle and William are such a delightful family. The rooms were light and spacious, the breakfast was hearty and healthy. We stayed at the Old Rectory as we had a friend's wedding on the Saturday night. David and Helle were so helpful in booking taxis and recommending pubs to eat at. I can't recommend this B and B highly enough, and think Tripadvisor should create a sixth star for those really special places. The Old Rectory would certainly earn it.
